Our tutors and mentors are here to support you throughout the entire course.
How is my course tutored?

Your course will be tutored by one of our team of experts. We will assign you to the most appropriate tutor for the course you are studying and the industry that you work in. All of our tutors have teaching qualifications, a background in and experience of the relevant industry sectors that they tutor. Your tutor will provide feedback on the course work that you submit, help you in preparing and developing assignments and will offer techniques on how to prepare for your exams. Throughout your learning experience your tutor will be there to offer guidance and support as you need it.
What access do I get to my tutor?

All of our courses include unlimited tutor support. Before you start your studies you will complete a telephone induction with your personal expert tutor. The tutor will explain all the processes of the course and discuss contact with you to fit around your needs. During the course contact with your tutor will be made by email or over the phone. We encourage that you contact your tutor by phone at least once a month to talk through any issues and the progress you are making on your course. They will continuously provide you with feedback including additional information on how you could improve your answers or what you should be looking out for and discuss subjects with you. Your tutor will be an industry expert and so will be able to offer a great deal of relevant support not only about the course itself but also on the industry or technical subject in which you work. There is also an opportunity to talk face-to-face with one of our tutors at our free monthly work shop sessions. All of your tutor feedback will all go towards getting ready for the assessment part of the course.
How often will I get feedback?

For work that is being marked by your tutor Distance Learning College guarantee our students will receive feedback within 7 days of submission. This will be individual feedback that is relevant to you and your work not just general feedback.
Are there set deadlines for completing work and how do DLC support me in meeting these?

When you enrol onto a course with us you will be given a target end date within which it is anticipated that you will complete your studies. For each of the modules or units to be studied you will be provided with a structured timetable that sets out all the actions of the course work and the dates by which you will need to submit work so you can complete the whole course by the target end date. These structured timetables take into consideration the level of the course and the complexity and length or difficulty of the action being covered. This is to ensure that you have adequate time to study and submit work at the correct frequency.
What happens if I run out of time or if I need to take a break in my studies?

We understand that sometimes our students may need to take a break in their studies due to personal circumstances or work commitments. If you need to take a break in your studies you can discuss this with your tutor or mentor who will support you in any way they can to evaluate your structured timetable and look at possible deadline extensions if needed.
Do I have to become a member of the institute whose course I am studying?

Yes, becoming an institute member enables you to obtain your chosen qualification and opens the door to wide range of information sources and support to help your study and your career. To join the institute all you will need to do is complete the form we send you at enrolment, following this your Student Liaison Officer will arrange and maintain your membership for you.

The flexibility of our courses means that unlike with most colleges you don't need to wait for set start dates to begin your course. You can start anytime throughout the year. Once your enrolment process is complete your study materials will be sent to you along with your Student Welcome Pack, most students are able to start their course within 2 weeks.

To enrol, simply contact one of our course advisors, either by completing our online enquiry form or by telephone on 0800 0126 770. They will take you through the steps needed to enrol on your course. Once the enrolment process is complete, most students are able to start their course within 2 weeks.

My employer is paying for my course, what feedback will they get?

If your employer is funding your studies we will request that they advise us of someone that is seen as a 'Business Sponsor'. On a regular basis our student support team will provide a report to the business sponsor that shows your study progress against your structured timetable. We will also contact the business sponsor if we receive any requests for extensions or delays in your studies.
As part of our agreement with our students we never share any of the course work submitted with business sponsors. This ensures that confidentiality is maintained between the college and student.
