How does the course work?
Study Time:
You can study at a pace to suit you. Your tutor will create a timetable for you, and will set you work and assignments to complete each week.
If you can spend around 3 hours a week studying, you should be able to complete the course in 18 months. If you can spend more time studying than that, you could fast-track and complete the course faster.
Course Structure:
You will take two compulsory units and one optional unit from a choice of eight.
Assessments
You will sit an examination for each of the compulsory units. The optional unit is assessed by two assignments each worth 50% of the total marks available.
Qualification Received:
You will receive the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Level 3 Certificate in Logistics and Transport.

Business Theory

The theory of business can and has been widely studied and published through various formats. The aim of this unit is to use core business theory and deliver this in a way that is practical and easy to understand. The Business Theory unit gives the student the ability to understand and use theory from such elements as marketing and product positioning to managing information, reporting to finance and aspects of legality. At the end of this program the student will be able to theoretically map how a company should operate and fully understand in practical terms the operation of theory application.

This unit has been specifically designed to assist junior level managers to develop senior management skills. The unit contains a wide but detailed spread of information covering key and significant management practice and theory across line/functional management through to business planning/motivations and the art of managing people. The unit will educate any student in how to effectively deliver good sound management practice within a broad and diverse range of business sectors.

This Unit is designed to provide students with the knowledge and understanding of the structure and operation of all types of passenger transport operations for local, national and international journeys in all the major modes of transport. It examines the role of passenger transport in today's society, including environmental issues and management. The unit also includes structure, planning, regulation and control of the passenger transport industry. Finally, the unit looks at funding and finance and the roles played by both public and private sector organizations.

It is made up of four elements that provide more detail on what procurement is and how it is influenced by internal and external factors, the key principles and processes involved in procurement, the legal and commercial issues that must be considered and ways of measuring and improving procurement performance.

It examines the role of freight transport today and includes environmental issues and management. Importantly, freight transport planning and the regulation and control of the freight transport industry are included. The unit also covers funding and operational costs associated with freight transport.

It seeks to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver effective and efficient services which meet the needs of local communities. As well as technical capabilities, the unit aims to develop an understanding of the local authority's aims and objectives in providing transport, and the wider issues associated with this provision.

This Unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to understand the operations of supply chains in various business settings. The supply chain origins and concepts will be explored. The unit will also discover the different flows in a supply chain, with the upstream and downstream linkages identified. The supply chain environment will be analysed both for local and global operations. The unit is made up of four elements which cover the fundamentals of supply chain; the supply chain environment; operations in a supply chain and supply chain performance. Various supply chain activities and performance measurements will also be identified and discussed in more detail in the final two sections of the unit.

In particular, this unit aims to broaden the candidate's thinking on the various factors that have to be balanced in transport decisions: economic prosperity, environment, congestion, social inclusion and accessibility, equity, choice and safety.

Learners will also consider the management of change aimed at improving sustainability and the performance measures and monitoring that will be required to bring about the desired and planned changes.
