ILM level 2 - Award/Certificate in Team Leading

It is often difficult to make the transition from being part of a team, to leading a team. The ILM Level 2 is an introductory team leading course designed to give students a knowledge of the various roles, functions and responsibilities of a team leader. The course also offers optional units, which students can choose from to tailor the course to their specific needs and career aspirations.

There are two Institute of Leadership and Management team leader qualifications at Level 2; the Award and Certificate in Team Leading.

Who is this course for?

The course is designed for practising or aspiring team leaders.

The course covers the following areas:

  • Organisation
  • Effective Working Relationships
  • Improving Team Performance
  • Customer Service

How does the course work?

Study Time:

You can study at a pace to suit you. Your tutor will create a timetable for you, and will set you work and assignments to complete each week.

If you can spend around 3 hours a week studying, you should be able to complete the course in 6 months for the Award or 12 months for the Certificate. If you can spend more time studying than that, you could fast-track and complete the course faster.

Course Structure:

To gain the Award, students must complete 'Developing Yourself as a Team Leader' from the Compulsory units, and then add another 2 credits from the Optional units. To gain the Certificate, students must complete all three Compulsory units, and then add another 9 credits from the Optional units.

Assessments

Assessment is normally via practical work-based assignments.

Qualification Received:

You will receive the Institute of Leadership and Management Level 2 Award or Certificate in Team Leading.

Motivating the Work Team to Perform (1 credits)

This unit helps learners to understand the organisation's requirements in relation to individual performance. It looks at what factors motivate people, and some theories and techniques for motivation. It also covers methods to address under-performance and improve team performance.
Planning and Monitoring Work (2 credits)

It covers how to work within the organisation's policies, procedures and priorities, how to plan and allocate work according to targets and objectives set and how to monitor work and rectify performance that does not meet the required standard.
