The CILT Level 2 Certificate in Logistics and Transport is an introductory logistics course for those who are new to the logistics and transport industry and are starting out in a career in procurement, warehousing and inventory control or production planning. CILT Level 2 equips students with a knowledge of the core principles and processes in logistics and transport.
Students can choose from modules in freight transport, passenger transport, warehousing and inventory or procurement. The CILT Level 2 qualification gives students the skills to start out in their logistics career, and to progress on to more advanced CILT courses.

How does the course work?
Study Time:
You can study at a pace to suit you. Your tutor will create a timetable for you, and will set you work and assignments to complete each week.
If you can spend around 3 hours a week studying, you should be able to complete the course in 18 months. If you can spend more time studying than that, you could fast-track and complete the course faster.

Assessments
You will sit an examination with a mixture of multiple choice and short answer questions for each unit.

This unit is designed to introduce students to the concept of logistics in its widest sense and to expose them to some of the general practices that are important in every part of the logistics working environment. The Unit is made up of five sections that contain sufficient knowledge for students starting out on a logistics career, wherever they may be employed within a logistics context. In each of these sections the emphasis is placed on the principles involved. The programme aims to equip students with a solid foundation of knowledge on which they can build with experience.
Introduction to Customer Services and Marketing

The purpose of this element is to introduce students to the importance of customer service and the principles of marketing. Starting with classifying customers into internal, business to business and the general public and how these should be individually treated. On completion, you will know how market boundaries are defined and will understand the responses to change in service from different customer groups. You will also learn how to use various marketing tools such as marketing plans, SWOT analysis and the importance of the 4Ps of marketing (Product, Place, Promotion and Price).

Made up of four sections this will introduce you to Freight Transport Services. It covers the diverse topics of transport and freight movements, freight transport characteristics, the organisational structure of the freight transport industry, and freight transport costs and charges. By the end of this you unit you will appreciate and understand the role of freight transport in society. You will understand some of the key considerations when moving freight internationally, the types of costs incurred in freight transport operations and how costs and rates can be calculated.

This unit will give you an overview of four areas: Transport and Passenger Movements, Passenger Transport Characteristics, Structures and Organisations in the Passenger Transport Industry, and Passenger Transport Costs. On completion of this unit you will know and understand the basic structure of the passenger industry, the required resources to manage passenger operations effectively and how global, national, PLCs and small and large organisations are affected differently by local authorities, national and international legislation on passenger transport services.

This unit covers the basic principles of Inventory, The Warehouse, Warehouse Principles, Storage and Materials Handling and Warehouse Processes. The unit outlines the important role that warehousing and inventory plays in the function of logistics. On completion of this unit you will have learned about the principles of warehousing and the need to use warehouse space effectively and efficiently. You will also understand the processes principles of stock rotation, separation, load preparation, utilisation, packaging and the basics of materials handling and housekeeping.
