Paul Scott, CILT Level 5 Case Study Laura Brown 2018-04-19T09:44:17+00:00
Paul, a Transport Manager at Middlesbrough based A V Dawson, recently completed his Level 5 CILT Diploma with Distance Learning College and Training. He has shared his experience with us in the hope of encouraging others to take the plunge, enrol in a professional qualification and procure the benefits.
Why did you first started looking for a professional qualification?
It was a personal goal for myself. I wanted to progress within the industry and always loved studying. I understand the importance of needing qualifications to sit alongside your experience.
What was it that made you approach DLC?
Distance Learning College were recommended to me by a ex-colleague who has vast amount of experience within the haulage industry. He stated that by obtaining a CILT diploma it would potentially catapult me into jobs/areas that I would never have imagined. Basically, it could set me up for life with a qualification recognised worldwide.
Which of our courses did you select and why?
I chose the CILT Level 5. I’d previously completed the Transport Managers CPC and felt this was the next step. I researched and communicated with DLC for 3 years before finally taking the plunge.
My company had unfortunately said they wouldn’t fund the qualification on my behalf, so I bit the bullet and made the decision to do it for myself. DLC were amazing in the support you gave me, especially from a finance perspective. I began paying on a monthly basis which helped me still support my young family and study at the same time.
How did you find dealing with DLC through the selection and set up process?
Fantastic. No issues what so ever. Very user friendly in terms of selecting the subjects I wanted to study. I was provided with good explanations and detailed descriptions of each subject as well as what you will gain from studying each one.
How did you find the materials and support?
Fabulous. The CILT books you’re provided with are very good in terms of finding your way around it. I was suggested additional books to purchase for the research needed to build upon your knowledge.
As for the support both Phil and Rachel have been amazing. Nothing has been a problem. Both have accommodated me even at short notice and went our of their way when I needed them most. Recently Glenda even went above and beyond to give me my results for the last exam. She knew how desperate I was to find out my results and went the extra mile to deliver.
Would you recommend us to colleagues or friends looking to develop professionally?
I have already. For me its the greatest way to study without having to take time off work (that’s if you are granted time off) and study in your own time.
Do you have any additional comments or feedback you would like to provide?
Excellent service with fantastic people working behind the scenes. Phil, Rachel, Glenda, and Ashley have all played a significant part in my qualification by consistently supporting me.
The beauty about open learning is you can do it in your own time. There’s no pressure as long as you allocate time to your studying, stay focused and don’t let it slip. I have found it hard over the last couple of years with having a young family but forward planning and dedication is the key to achieving your goals. I’m living proof after getting 81% in my last exam. I still haven’t come back down from the ceiling!
